Like many other oratories or votive shrines, San Giuseppe is also located at the fork of two important roads of the time: the Lauretana which, leaving the suburb of Prato led towards the Valdichiana and the Pecorile road which led to Chiusure, Trequanda and San Giovanni d'Asso.
The external architecture of the church denotes many structural changes, while the interior is characterized by a fresco of the Madonna del Latte surrounded by saints. The Renaissance work, attributed to Sodom, was heavily damaged during the last world war.
As in the case of San Sebastiano in Camparboli, this small and little-visited church certainly originated from a roadside tabernacle which, over time, has undergone many transformations and alterations.
In the southern area of Asciano in Pian di Prato, at the end of the descent of San Giuseppe, there was another tabernacle dedicated to the Madonna.
The old road that led to Sant'Ippolito and the one that, through the Cacciaconti Palace, led to Serre and Rapolano departed from the place of the latter.
Unfortunately, today there is no trace of this last tabernacle, which was moved to the first half of the twentieth century.
